- Bar Chart
- Ethnic groups - grouping
- Comparing men and women
Notice that there is a bar for "General Population." It would be a good idea to make some comparisons to this.
Also, do you notice any patterns or common points between the different "Minority Ethnic Groups"? How would you include this in your overview?
The bar chart compares the popularity of smoking (by gender) of six ethnic groups with that of the general population in England in 2004. It can clearly be seen that in all instances, men were more likely than their female counterparts to smoke, with Asian women being very unlikely to smoke.
The greatest difference between men and women can be found in the Bangladeshi group. Here, while almost 40% of men smoked, less than 3% of women did. It was similar story with the Pakistani population, though less extreme.
Another interesting point is the Irish men and women. Both sexes were more likely to smoke than the general population, at 30% and 27% compared to 24% and 23% respectively.
Finally, there is a clear difference between the smoking habits of Chinese, Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani women and that of the average Englishwoman. In every case, a small proportion smoked, ranging from 2% of Bangladeshi women to 13% for Chinese women. This was dramatically lower than the roughly 23% of English women who smoke.
